Football fans are expressing great concern for former NFL running back Adrian Peterson following a sorrowful development.

As noted by several X/Twitter accounts, the former NFL superstar and Minnesota Vikings fan favorite is selling off plenty of his football memorabilia in an estate sale.

The 2012 league MVP has endured financial hardships in his post-playing career, having been ordered to pay $8.3 million on a defaulted loan in Jan. 2021. Peterson made over $100 million in his playing career.

The auction of the many listed available items can be seen here. Some of the top items he’s selling include his 2012 MVP and Offensive Player of the Year Trophies as well as his 2007 Offensive Rookie of the Year Award:

Heartbreaking: Legendary #Vikings Adrian Peterson is hosting a sale at his home where he will be selling his MVP trophy, Rookie of The Year, OPoY trophy, and other memorabilia.

Peterson is reportedly in serious DEBT despite making over 100 million.

Fans on social media expressed sadness and heartbreak for the future Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee following the sad development:

It’s indeed a sad story for a player who played 15 seasons (2007 to 2021), not to mention all of the money he made in endorsement deals. It’s also a difficult reminder of how quickly money disappears, even for the rich and wealthy.

There is no shortage of former superstar athletes who endured financial hardships following their playing careers. As one fan noted above on X/Twitter, a lot of the money these players earn will go towards agents and helping friends.

Peterson last played in the 2021 season which was split with the Tennessee Titans and Seattle Seahawks. He is fifth all-time in career rushing yards with 14,918.
