It sounds like the Jimmy Garoppolo experiment in Sin City is coming to an end.

According to a report from The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, it’s “expected” that the Raiders will cut Garoppolo when the official league new year begins tomorrow. Russini added that some teams have interest in the 32-year-old.

Last year, the Raiders released Derek Carr then signed Garoppolo to a three-year contract worth $72.75 million. Garoppolo had a tough year in Sin City, throwing seven touchdowns and nine interceptions in seven games before losing his starting job midseason to rookie Aidan O’Connell.

Las Vegas signed ex-Indianapolis Colts QB Gardner Minshew II to a two-year deal on Monday and he will presumably compete with O’Connell for the starting job. The arrival of Minshew was essential confirmation that Vegas is planning to move on from Jimmy G.

The 2014 second-round pick will be serving a two-game suspension to begin next season for violating the NFL’s PEDs policy.

Garoppolo won two Super Bowl rings as Tom Brady’s backup in New England during the 2014 and 2016 seasons. He was traded to the San Francisco 49ers ahead of the 2017 trade deadline and served as their primary starting QB until 2022.

The rise of 2022 Mr. Irrelevant Brock Purdy prompted the 49ers to move on from both Garoppolo and Trey Lance (traded to the Dallas Cowboys) last year. Fast forward a year later, and Garoppolo is right back on the open market.
