Earlier this week, San Francisco GM John Lynch revealed that the club has received trade offers for Brandon Aiyuk. However, Lynch emphasized that the team’s priority is to extend their leading receiver of 2023.
If teams are still keen on completing a trade for Aiyuk, it’s now or never. The 49ers will certainly want at least a 2024 first-round pick as part of the return, and the draft runs from Thursday to Saturday.
Bleacher Report’s Gary Davenport proposed several blockbuster trade ideas regarding San Francisco’s star receiver. In one of his trade ideas, Davenport put forward the idea of the Buffalo Bills acquiring in exchange for the No. 28 pick and a 2025 fourth-round selection:
“An extension for Aiyuk wouldn’t be easy with Buffalo possessing just $7.7 million in cap space. And trading Aiyuk to another Super Bowl contender might be a tough sell in Santa Clara. But obtaining a first-rounder for Aiyuk beats the late third-rounder San Francisco would receive for him leaving in free agency a year from now—a pick San Francisco wouldn’t see until 2026.
Bringing Aiyuk in would alleviate much of the sting from losing Diggs. And it’s better for Buffalo in the short-term than trying to develop a rookie on the fly.”
Brandon Aiyuk is coming off a career year in which he caught 75 passes for 1,342 yards and seven touchdowns. He helped the 49ers to a Super Bowl 58 appearance, where they fell to the Kansas City Chiefs in overtime.
Brandon Aiyuk Is Exactly What The Bills Need
The Bills can’t realistically expect to compete for a Super Bowl again with their current wide receiver room. Losing Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis may save money over the long run, but they can’t afford to waste another year of Josh Allen’s prime by giving him a mediocre pass-catching group.
Aiyuk has put up elite numbers on a 49ers offense consisting of Christian McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel and George Kittle. If Aiyuk came to Buffalo, he would easily step in as the No. 1 receiver the way Diggs did here four years ago.
If Aiyuk ends up being available via trade, then the Bills should be aggressive in trying to complete a trade. Aiyuk is only 26 years of age and would help keep Buffalo’s long-term Super Bowl window open with Allen about to enter his age-28 season.
