In a recent interview with Forbes, Hanna Cavinder explained why the twins decided to leave college basketball last year.

“I think going into deciding whether we were going to take our fifth year or not, we kind of were leaning on each other,” said Hanna. “We’ve always done everything together, so it kind of just made sense. I was just kind of ready to tie the shoes up, and I had different ambitions outside of basketball, but that was kind of my decision to step away.”

How the Cavinder Twins went back to college

The Cavinder Twins became the poster girls for the NIL era when they signed with Boost Mobile on the first day that the name, image and likeness legislation was passed, and their transfer to the Miami Hurricanes gave them an even bigger platform.

While balancing their basketball careers and a blossoming NIL portfolio, the twins became social media stars and led the Hurricanes to the 2023 NCAA Tournament Elite Eight.

Immediately afterward, they shocked college hoops fans with their retirement announcement to pursue other ventures and drew a close to one of the most successful NIL portfolios in college sports.

“Hanna and I have decided to not take our fifth year and start a new chapter in our lives,” Haley wrote on social media at the time. “The U will always be home and we are forever proud to be Hurricanes.”

With Hanna’s decision to go back to college basketball, the Cavinder Twins are now both back in, as Haley was the first to realize that her playing days were not over and entered the transfer portal before joining the TCU Horned Frogs.

During a Forbes interview, Haley explained her reasons for opting to go back to college basketball.

“I think ending it with Hanna and announcing that we were done and not going to take our fifth year, I felt—honestly, to be very transparent—a lot of pressure,” Haley said. “There was nothing filling the love for the game, and I just truly was like, I know I’m going to regret it down the road if I don’t go back.”

With both Hanna and Haley Cavinder back in college basketball, college hoops fans will monitor with interest the ways that the twins can take advantage of the NIL system to once again become the endorsement queens of college sports.
