David Beckham recalled the advice former Man Utd manager Sir Alex Ferguson gave him during a TV appearance on the Jimmy Fallon show.

David Beckham received some sound advice from former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson before a deal to sign Lionel Messi was confirmed.

On Wednesday afternoon, Messi announced that his next club will be Inter Miami; the Major League Soccer franchise who have been linked with his signature for some time.

“I will not return to Barcelona, I will join Inter Miami,” he told Mundo Deportivo. “After winning the World Cup and not being able to go to Barca, it was time to go to the United States to live football in a different way and enjoy more day to day.”

Inter Miami, who also want to sign Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba and Luis Suarez, later confirmed their newest addition with a post on social media.

The thing is; Inter Miami’s co-owner David Beckham planted the seed about a possible move for Lionel Messi back in 2020.

Speaking on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, former LA Galaxy midfielder Beckham refused to rule out bringing Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo to South Florida in the near future.

“Well you know what, we’ve got great opportunities down in Miami,” he said on the show. “‘We’ve been contacted by a lot of different players over possibly coming to join the team.

“As with any owner, you really want the best players and if we have the opportunity to bring in players like Cristiano or Leo, I have such admiration for them as athletes, if we could bring those players in then great.”

Beckham went on to mention the advice he received from former manager Sir Alex Ferguson about bringing in the right people.

He added: “One of the things I learned from Alex Ferguson… he turned around to me and said whoever you bring in, they have to be the right fit for the club.

“It’s not about the biggest name or personality, it’s about who fits in best with the players.

“That’s what we’ll do. But, like I said, as an owner if you want to bring these players in then we have a great opportunity.”

 

Messi revealed on Wednesday that he had offers from other European teams.

“I didn’t even evaluate them because my idea was to go to Barcelona and, if that didn’t come about, then leaving European football after winning the World Cup was what I needed,” he said.

“Now I will close my career in this country and experiencing the MLS in a different way, enjoying the day-to-day much more – but with the same responsibility of wanting to win and always doing things well but with more peace of mind.”
