Mitch Trubisky is returning to a familiar place for the next chapter of his NFL career.

According to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, the Buffalo Bills have brought back Trubisky following his release from the Pittsburgh Steelers. The AFC North club released the No. 2 pick of 2017 ahead of free agency last month.

Trubisky played for the Bills in 2021 to serve as a backup to Josh Allen. Trubisky saw limited playing time in Orchard Park, attempting only eight passes in six regular season game appearances.

After a one-year stop in Buffalo, Trubisky signed with the Steelers in 2022 free agency. He opened the season as the starter before losing his starting job to rookie and first-round selection Kenny Pickett.

Over his two seasons with the Steelers, Trubisky went 2-5-0 as a starter with a 64.1 completion percentage, 1,884 passing yards, eight touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Before joining Buffalo in 2021, Trubisky spent his first four years (2017 to 2020) as the Chicago Bears’ starting quarterback.

Trubisky was infamously drafted ahead of Patrick Mahomes and Deshaun Watson in the 2017 NFL Draft. He never fully lived up to expectations in the Windy City, going 29-21-0 as a starter with 10,609 passing yards and 64 touchdowns against 37 interceptions.

Now, the 29-year-old and veteran journeyman goes back to Buffalo to serve as quarterback insurance to Allen.
