Former NFL wide receiver Corey Davis is attempting a comeback after a brief retirement.

According to ESPN’s Field Yates, former Tennessee Titans and New York Jets wide receiver Corey Davis has applied for NFL reinstatement. Soon after Yates’ post, the Jets confirmed that Davis had been released from the reserve/retired list, thus sending him right to free agency:

In the 2021 offseason, Davis signed a three-year pact with the Jets worth $37.5 million. The No. 5 pick of the 2017 NFL Draft had 66 receptions for 1,028 yards and six touchdowns over his first two seasons with the Jets (22 games).

The Western Michigan product had an up-and-down four-year tenure with the Titans. After recording just 375 receiving yards (no touchdowns) in his rookie year, Davis seemingly broke out in 2018 by notching 65 receptions for 891 yards and four touchdowns.

Davis’ production dropped in 2019, where he finished with 43 receptions for 601 yards and two touchdowns. But he rebounded by piecing together a career year in 2020, racking up 65 receptions for 984 yards and five touchdowns.

Injuries largely defined Davis’ two-year tenure with the Jets. Aaron Rodgers’ arrival brought new excitement to the Jets franchise, but Davis unexpectedly announced he was stepping away just two weeks before the regular season.

The 6-foot-3, 209-pound wideout has 273 career receptions for 3,879 yards and 17 touchdowns in 78 NFL games.
