Following a public appearance disagreement that his previous agent stirred up, New York Giants quarterback Tommy DeVito has decided to change agents.
As previously noted, had agreed to a public appearance at the Coniglio’s Old Fashioned pizzeria in Morristown, New Jersey on Tuesday. However, the business had to cancel the appearance after DeVito’s agent, Sean Stellato, suddenly increased the appearance fee from $10,000 to $20,000.
In an update, Paul Schwartz of the New York Post reports that DeVito has replaced Stellato with Maxx Lepselter to serve as his new marketing agent:
“The Tommy DeVito hysteria will have a new orchestrator for his off-the-field endeavors, as colorful, fedora-wearing Sean Stellato is out and Maxx Lepselter is in, The Post had learned.
The 25-year old undrafted rookie, currently the Giants’ starting quarterback, is honing his craft on the field and trying to establish a foothold in the NFL.
Lepselter, the president of Maxx MGMT, met with DeVito on Dec. 1, five days after DeVito helped the Giants beat the Patriots 10-7 for his second NFL victory on Nov. 26. Two days later, with DeVito and his family in the room, Lepselter was hired and his MRN (Marketing Representation Notice) was filed with the NFL Players Association.”
That’s not all. As noted by Darren Rovell, DeVito showed up to the pizzeria for his public appearance on Tuesday, and he didn’t charge a dime:
DeVito has become a fan favorite with the Giants amid a disappointing season in the Meadowlands. The undrafted rookie out of Illinois has won three of his five starts with Big Blue, completing 64.4 percent of pass attempts for 1,032 yards and eight touchdowns against only three interceptions.
The Giants lost starting quarterback Daniel Jones for the year with a torn ACL in Week 9 against the Las Vegas Raiders. Second-stringer Tyrod Taylor has also missed time recovering from a rib injury, which prompted head coach Brian Daboll to give DeVito a look.
The 5-9 Giants will try to play spoiler on Christmas Day when they visit the 10-4 Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles are tied with the Dallas Cowboys for first in the NFC East.
