Shooter McGavin, the villain in one of the most beloved sports films, ‘Happy Gilmore’, has delivered some news that should leave fans excited.

It appears the hit 1996 film could be getting a sequel, according to actor Christopher McDonald, who played McGavin in said movie.

McDonald claims to have been shown a script for ‘Happy Gilmore 2’ by star Adam Sandler.

“I saw Adam [Sandler] about two weeks ago. He says to me ‘McDonald, you’re gonna love this.’ How about that? He shows me the first draft of Happy Gilmore 2,” he told Cleveland’s 92.3 sports radio.

McDonald asked for that part of the show to be cut out but it was fortunately left in.

“It’s in the works–fans demand it, dammit,” he added.

While a script doesn’t necessarily mean that there will be a ‘Happy Gilmore 2’, this is still exciting news. Plus, given Sandler’s deal with Netflix, it’s even more likely.

Happy Gilmore Is One Of the Best-Ever Golf Movies

Sandler played the titular Happy Gilmore in the film. Gilmore, a failed hockey player, parlayed his powerful swing to the golf course for what was an entertaining fan favorite.

Apart from Sandler and McDonald, the film also featured the late Carl Weathers, who played Happy’s coach, as well as Julie Bowen, Kevin Nealon, Ben Stiller, and Allen Covert.

The late Frances Bay was also featured and portrayed Happy’s grandmother, who was the reason he attempted professional golf so he could save her house with the prize money. She passed away in 2011.

Happy Gilmore also had a memorable piece in which the late Bob Barker beats Sandler up.

Sandler went on to star in other iconic films such as ‘The Wedding Singer’, “The Water Boy’, ‘Big Daddy’, ‘Mister Deeds’, ‘Anger Management’, ‘50 First Dates’, and ‘The Longest Yard’ after ‘Happy Gilmore’s success.

He’s since struck a lucrative deal with Netflix. His latest movie, ‘Spaceman’ is now streaming on the platform.
