New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones regressed in 2023 before being lost for the season with a torn ACL.
Last March, Jones reached a four-year, $160 million extension with the Giants which him a top-10 paid quarterback in the NFL when he signed the deal. The Giants signed Jones through 2026 with $82 million fully guaranteed and up to an additional $35 million available in incentives.
The Giants entered the 2023-24 season with plenty of optimism but came crashing down to earth almost immediately. The Giants season was a failure. As much as the 2022 playoff season was celebrated, when the Giants went to Minnesota and won a playoff game behind the play of Daniel Jones, this past season couldn’t have been more of a polar opposite.
Despite how fans may feel about their starting quarterback, a new report says Jones will indeed be the starting quarterback for the 2024 season. This was reported by both NFL Network and Fox Sports, setting the stage for another chapter in Jones’ tenure with the Giants.
The Giants organization still holds a strong belief in Daniel Jones as not only their present quarterback but also as the future face of the franchise, according to Ralph Vacchiano for Fox Sports.
Giants general manager Joe Schoen admitted this week that the team must prepare as if Jones isn’t going to be ready to start the season.
“We have to plan on Daniel Jones not being healthy at the start of next year, but hope for the best. That means bringing in another quarterback,” Schoen said.
“It’s not out of the question Tyrod Taylor will be back,” he said.
Jones threw for just 909 yards and two touchdowns against six interceptions in six games while averaging 5.7 yards per pass attempt, which was the NFL’s second-worst mark among quarterbacks with at least 100 attempts at the time of his injury.
The previous season, Jones threw for 3,205 yards and 15 touchdowns against five interceptions while adding 708 yards and seven scores as a rusher.
The team will look to get that version of Jones back in 2024.
