An awfully interesting trade proposal has the Chicago Bears passing on the chance to draft Caleb Williams by instead landing one of the league’s premier quarterbacks.

The Bears hold the No. 1 selection in the 2024 NFL Draft via the Carolina Panthers, who gave up their first-round pick this year in order to move up and take Bryce Young first overall in the 2023 draft.

CBS sports radio host Ryan Hickey recently sent football fans into a frenzy by proposing a blockbuster trade idea that has the Bears sending the No. 1 and No. 9 picks to the Buffalo Bills in exchange for superstar signal-caller Josh Allen.

From the Bills’ point of view, Hickey suggested that swapping out Allen for Williams would reset the club’s competitive window. For the Bears, Hickey opined that adding Allen would give them the NFC’s No. 1 QB while immediately turning the longtime struggling franchise into a playoff team.

It’s certainly an interesting proposal from Hickey, but there’s no guarantee that either side would be keen on the move. As talented as Williams is, QBs are never a sure-thing to succeed in the NFL, and the Bills already have an annual MVP candidate to keep them in contention.

For Chicago, if they’re not sold on Williams, they can always trade the pick and build around Justin Fields. It’s unlikely they’d want to take on the mammoth contract of a 28-year-old Allen when they can build around a younger Fields or a 22-year-old Williams on a rookie deal for the next four to five seasons.
