The Cleveland Browns have reportedly decided on the direction they’re going to take where Nick Chubb is concerned.

The star running back suffered a gruesome knee injury in Week 2 last season, spending the rest of the term on the sidelines.

Given the above, he has been listed as a potential cap casualty for the upcoming 2024 season. However, GM Andrew Berry would like to see him stay, per a report from Cleveland.com’s Mary Kay Cabot.

“Nobody wants to see that carry in Pittsburgh be the last time he carries the ball for the Cleveland Browns,” Berry was quoted as saying. “And obviously there are things that we’ll have to work through, but that would not be our intention. We obviously will work to keep him on the team.”

Cabot has explained that the Browns will probably work with the player to restructure his contract and make it more team-friendly and incentive-based.

The four-time Pro Bowler was one of the loudest voices during the running back standoffs last year, though he had no such problems with the Browns. His injury will see him lose some leverage in negotiations.

“He’s not only a team favorite but a fan favorite, and the Browns know that money isn’t everything,” Cabot adds. “They’ll make a smart business decision, but they’ll also lead with their hearts on this one.”
