Nicki Minaj dropped the long-awaited “Pink Friday 2” album last week and many fans have been enjoying the tracks so far. However, some of them speculated that some of the lyrics of a specific song might have shaded Latto; today, the Queen of rap is clearing up any speculation.
According to Us Weekly Magazine, some of Minaj’s fans, referred to as Barbz, wondered if she was pertaining about Latto in a verse on the song titled “Fallin 4 U.”
In the lyrics, the musician sang: “Picture you endin’ up under the sea, where the dread at? / Picture not listenin’ when I said you would dread that / I mean locs, ho / You’s a chop, ho.”
Some Barbz noted that the line “locs, ho” sounded similar to Latto’s name.
Despite the speculations, the musician clarified the true meaning behind the lyrics of her new track and it seems like it wasn’t a diss against the other rapper.
Nicki Minaj Clarifies Latto Diss
In a recent livestream, the rap legend revealed that the lyrics of her new song was about the live-action film “The Little Mermaid” and it wasn’t about Latto.
“The ‘dreadlock under the sea’ was … The Little Mermaid, right? So relax,” she clarified without explicitly naming Latto.
In addition, during the Stationhead listening party, Minaj said that the line was indeed connected to the popular Disney film which was released earlier this year.
As of this writing, Latto has yet to respond on the speculations and Minaj’s explanation.
Nicki Minaj, Latto Feud Revisited
Per the outlet, the two rappers first had beef last year when an article by The Hollywood Reporter claimed that the Queen of rap’s track will not be under the rap category in the Grammys and would possibly appear under the Best Pop Solo Performance.
At the time, Minaj wasn’t pleased about the matter so she proceeded to share her thoughts on social media, saying she had no problem about it as long as Latto’s “Big Energy” will also fall under the pop category.
Latto responded about the matter by posting: “Damn, I can’t win for losing … all these awards/noms I can’t even celebrate.”
In other updates, “Pink Friday 2” is now available for streaming on major music platforms like Apple Music and Spotify.
