It’s been over twenty years since the original The Fast and the Furious movie hit theaters. Since then, we have seen over ten other films released in theaters that have garnered over $7 billion in box office revenue. Ahead of the recent release of Fast X, I rewatched all the movies in the Fast and Furious franchise to get the definitive ranking.
Every time I rewatch the movies within this franchise, my list alters because I am constantly fascinated by new things. While I firmly believe that Hobbs & Shaw is a fantastic movie and would’ve never been made because they are a part of the family, I do not include it in my rankings. I am only taking a look at the movies within the Fast Saga. Without further ado, here are my Fast and Furious franchise rankings, including Fast X.
10. The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift (2006)
The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift – Fast and Furious Franchise Ranked
Toyko Drift is a movie that I care a little more about than I did ten years ago. But no matter how often I watch this movie, Lucas Black is not a great actor, and because of his non-ability to lead this film, you can’t enjoy it. Director Justin Lin does save some of it with his incredible work behind the camera on some of the races.
9. Fast & Furious (2009)

Outside of Toyko Drift, I don’t think there is a “bad” movie in this franchise. I liked Fast & Furious as it brought the team together, but what makes it so low on the list is that they were still working out kinks within the story of these characters. I look at this as more of the rebirth of the franchise. It does have probably the best opening in the franchise.
8. The Fate of the Furious (2017)
Fate Of The Furious – Fast Furious Franchise Ranked
Our first movie post-Paul Walker was a doozy. Again, I don’t look at this as a bad film, but the off-screen battle between The Rock and Vin Diesel strongly comes off within the movie. I hated how that significantly affected how things unfolded in the eighth installment. That said, Charlize Theron is a top-tier villain in the Fast & Furious franchise.
7. 2 Fast 2 Furious (2003)
2 Fast 2 Furious – Fast and Furious Franchise Ranked
Every time I watch 2 Fast 2 Furious, I move it up my rankings. The banter between Paul Walker and Tyrese from the time they first see each other to the end of the movie is brilliant. It’s obviously the more “light-hearted” film with more comedy than you are used to seeing, but this is the movie that introduced us to Roman and Tej, who are the comedic backbone of the franchise. RIP to the GOAT director John Singleton who slayed behind the camera.
6. Fast & Furious 6 (2013)
Fast & Furious 6 – Fast and Furious Franchise Ranked
In my recent watch of Fast & Furious 6, I forgot how much I liked it and moved it up my rankings. Luke Evans is remarkable as Owen Shaw, and Dom teaming up with Hobbs made for fun on-screen chemistry. I missed these two on the screen together. I really hope that The Rock and Vin Diesel kiss and makeup before Fast 11. But the use of technology within this film was next level, and this might be one of the better shot films of the series.
5. F9 (2021)
F9 – Fast and Furious Franchise Ranked
F9 finally embraced what this franchise has become in being absolutely ludicrous (pun intended). We had the addition of John Cena, who played the unknown brother of Dominic Toretto. You got Han coming back into the fold, Helen Mirren, and the return of the crew from Tokyo Drift, all while Roman and Tej go to space. I meant, what more could we ask for? It’s absurd, over-the-top, and one of the best times I’ve had in a theater. The movie got far too much hate.
4. Furious 7 (2015)
Furious 7 – Fast and Furious Franchise Ranked
When I first watched Furious 7, I didn’t love it, and it had a lot to do with not feeling like they did justice to Brian after Paul Walker passed away. But every watch since has broken me down in tears. Brian was the glue that held Dom together, and we’ve seen how much this franchise misses Paul Walker in its films. There is so much to love about this movie, but that final scene gets me every time.
3. Fast Five (2011)
Fast Five – Fast and Furious Franchise Ranked
Prior to watching Fast X, Fast Five was hands down my favorite movie of the franchise, but I always had a hard time ranking above the original. That said, Fast Five is single handily one of the best action movies ever made. With the addition of The Rock, Dom and his crew had to up the ante to ensure they would come together at the end. From the “THIS IS BRAZIL” moment to the final heist, Fast Five is a MASTERPIECE.
2. Fast X (2023)
Fast X – Fast and Furious Franchise Ranked
Everything we love about this franchise is taken up a notch with Dante Reyes becoming this dominant villain that this franchise sorely needed. Jason Momoa gives hands down one of the best action villain performances we’ve ever seen. Another standout was taking the film off the shoulders of Dominic Toretto and allowing everyone to shine and make the movie better. Overall, I am blown away by Fast X and can’t wait to rewatch it a hundred more times.
1. The Fast and the Furious (2001)
The Fast and the Furious – Fast and Furious Franchise Ranked
“A street kid that starts out stealing DVD players in East LA ends up heisting a $100 million in Rio.” Owen Shaw says this to Dom in Fast & Furious 6. It’s wild to hear that and watch this film to see how far they have come. The Fast and the Furious comes in for one reason and one reason alone because it’s the OG. The nostalgia every time I watch this makes it my number one. It’s amazing to see how the family all started.
