Stephen Belichick, who is the new Washington Huskies defensive coordinator and son of the legendary NFL coach Bill Belichick took a brutal shot at his father during a Wednesday media session.
The University of Washington defensive coordinator and former New England Patriots coach is just like his father as he provided a blunt response when asked what the difference is between himself and his father, former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick.
“We definitely have similarities. I have a job, he doesn’t.”
Ouch. That poor man has a family…and you’re part of it.
The reporters in the room laughed, and Steve added, “He knows that.”
Steve also established that he doesn’t want to live in Bill Belichck’s shadow forever.
“I look up to my dad. He mentored me. But I’m myself,” he added. “I’m excited to get out on the field and work with these guys and work with the kids and recruit the kids and just kind of be myself and not tryna be him, ” he further stated, via Yahoo Sports.
Steve Belichick was introduced as defensive coordinator at the University of Washington when he delivered that sick burn.
The 37-year-old was a defensive assistant on Bill Belichick’s staff from 2012 through this past season, at different times coaching safeties, defensive backs, and outside linebackers. He was given the opportunity to stay by new head coach Jared Mayo but he chose to find his own path and head to the college ranks.
He was hired onto the staff at Washington under new head coach Jedd Fisch, who joined the Huskies after coaching at the University of Arizona the past three seasons.
Bill Belichick Parts Ways With New England Patriots After 24 Seasons
Bill Belichick’s tenure with the New England Patriots came to an end after 24 seasons, which included six Super Bowl victories and nine AFC titles.
He leaves New England with 333 career victories, ranking second behind Don Shula at 347, according to ESPN.
Belichick went off searching for a new job but only received an interview from the Atlanta Falcons which obviously did not work out as they hired someone else. Now, he will not be coaching during the 2024 season at all.
