A hot mic appears to have caught Kansas City Chiefs punter Tommy Townsend making a savage comment to Buffalo Bills kicker Tyler Bass following Sunday’s jaw-dropping AFC Divisional Round tilt.

Bass missed a game-tying 44-yard field goal after the two-minute warning that would have tied the game up at 27 apiece. The Chiefs managed to run out the clock to reach their sixth straight AFC Championship Game while also eliminating Buffalo from the postseason for the third time in four years.

After the game, a hot mic caught one of the players (Townsend or Bass) saying to the other “Good (expletive) brother. If it was Townsend? Well then, what a comment to a kicker who experienced the most heartbreaking defeat of his life:

And in case you think the video was doctored by a fan, you can actually here the clip at the 13:50 mark here.

It was easy for fans to quickly blame Bass for the loss, but the finger cannot be pointed squarely on him. Even if he made the field goal, the game’s best quarterback (Patrick Mahomes) would have had plenty of time to drive down the field to set up a game-winning attempt for Harrison Butker.

The Bills’ stingy defense once again had a miserable outing against Mahomes in the postseason. Sean McDermott’s fake punt in the fourth quarter should take just as much, if not more, heat than Bass’ missed field goal.

The bottom line: The Bills fell well short of their ultimate goal once again. And another painful offseason awaits for a team that just can’t seem to get over the postseason hump.
