The so-called Super Bowl favorites of this year are out of the title contention in their very first postseason game.

HOW BOUT THEM COWBOYS! The Dallas Cowboys continue their nearly three-decade-long streak of consistently disappointing fans year after year. They did not just lose against the Green Bay Packers in the Wild Card Round but got exposed in a big way.

The loss was shocking and painful for the entire crowd at AT&T Stadium. Jerry Jones could not believe what he was witnessing. At halftime, the Packers were up 27-7 on the Cowboys.

How did this happen? Is this a dream? Absolutely not. Tonight was the Cowboys being the Cowboys. After this loss, the biggest question that the team has to answer is with respect to the future of Mike McCarthy.

This year was viewed as his last chance to prove himself by making a deep playoff run, now his job remains at risk. Owner Jerry Jones was surrounded by a flock of media after the Cowboys’ loss at home, he was at a loss for words. Here’s what he said,

This (loss) seems like the most painful because we all had such great expectations and hopes for this team…This is beyond my comprehension…I’m floored.

It was not just you who was floored tonight Mr. Jones, the entire fanbase was. How can a team that went on to win the NFC East and beat some of the best teams across the NFL get destroyed by a Packers team that was not expected to be in the playoffs?

Tonight, Dak Prescott got outplayed by Jordan Love, Mike McCarthy got outcoached by Matt LaFleur, Dan Quinn‘s defense faltered in front of Adam Stenavich‘s game plan, and Joe Barry‘s defense showed up tonight.

While Mike McCarthy deserves the blame, he cannot solely be held accountable. Those interceptions Prescott threw, he had no control over.

Jones told the media that he is yet to think about what the future holds with Mike McCarthy. He did not comment about the team’s coaching decisions for now but did say that he will be sitting down with McCarthy.

With that being said, Mike McCarthy can be dubbed as the Arlington Renegade, the UFL team based out of Texas. The odds of him returning next season are meager.

At this point, Jerry Jones risks losing his credibility if he were to bring McCarthy back after this horrific loss. A loss of this caliber at the home stadium of the Cowboys? It was enough to strip them of the title of being ‘America’s team.’ With the options available at coaching this offseason, Mr. Jones is likely to have already gotten on the phone and started making calls to potential candidates.
