The iconic announcer was celebrated as he took over the role in 1984 and has appeared in every episode since.

Johnny was left emotional after his co-hosts brought out a huge cake in his honor.

The official Jeopardy! Instagram account shared a video of the cake-making process.

The video started with the decorator making a figurine of Johnny in modelling chocolate and fondant icing.

His figure wore his iconic silver and red jacket and headset.

The figurine smiled widely and waved his chocolate hand.

The decorator placed the figure behind a chocolate podium, a replica of what Johnny does in the show.

The rest of the cake was an edible studio.

On the bottom, fondant letters spelt out, “9000 episodes.”

“We’ll take The Best Cake Ever for $1000. Special thanks to @mimicafeunion + @TheButterEnd for making this Johnny Gilbert cake in honor of #Jeopardy!’s 9000th episode,” the show captioned the post.

Fans flooded the comment section with amused remarks.

“Not creepy at all,” wrote one sarcastically with a laughing face emoji.

“I was hoping this would be a bobblehead,” added another.

“Great work,” said a third.

“Wow,” simply noted a fourth.

Another video posted by the game show showed Johnny’s emotional reaction when they cake was revealed to him.

Johnny walked out onto the stage to a standing ovation.

“That’s the cake? You’re kidding?” He asked in shock.

Johnny looked delighted at his recognition and wiped away tears.

“How’d you like Jeopardy!? After 40 years, is it still a good show?” He asked the audience, who cheered in response.

“Alex [Trebek] and I started the show when Merv Griffin created it,” Johnny explained.

“It was bought for 13 weeks and if it didn’t do well in 13 weeks, that was the end of the show.

“Obviously it’s done very well. So for what it’s worth, thank you very much from a humble guy on Jeopardy!” He concluded.

The audience chimed back with the iconic line, “This is Jeopardy!”

THE ORIGINALS

Johnny and the late Alex Trebek have been with the show from the very beginning.

Alex passed away in November 2020 at the age of 80 after battling pancreatic cancer for two years.

Fans were shocked at how young Johnny looked despite being 95 years old.

“Johnny looks great for 95,” wrote a follower.

“This is very precious! We love you, Johnny,” added another.

“He sounds pretty good for being in his 90s!” Said a third.
