A wild blockbuster trade proposal involving Miami Dolphins star quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has led to plenty of hysterical reactions from football fans.
The Dolphins picked up the fifth-year option on his rookie contract last year. And even though Tua Tagovailoa been eligible for an extension for a year now, the Dolphins still have yet to hand him a new deal.
This has only led to more speculation that the Dolphins may not be fully sold on Tua Tagovailoa as their franchise quarterback. If that’s the case, perhaps the front office would be willing to listen to offers on the 2020 first-round pick.
On a recent episode of FS1’s “First Things First” program, Nick Wright proposed the idea of the Minnesota Vikings calling Miami to see if a trade for Tua Tagovailoa can be had.
Wright said that Miami head coach Mike McDaniel has overseen a top-flight offense despite Tua Tagovailoa’s limitations. And with Minnesota recently acquiring a second first-round pick in 2024 (No. 23 overall via the Houston Texans), Wright thinks the Vikings and Dolphins are perfect trade partners.
Wright has never been short of interesting takes. This one on Tua Tagovailoa led to plenty of interesting reactions from fans on X/Twitter:
With the No. 11 and No. 23 picks in next month’s NFL Draft, the Vikings certainly have plenty of enticing options in finding a quarterback.
They could stand pat and take a QB with either of those picks or potentially use the assets to trade up and get the guy they like. If they’d like to trade for a veteran signal-caller, maybe Minnesota could consider placing a trade offer for Tua Tagovailoa.
A Tua Tagovailoa Trade Is Highly Unlikely
Miami hasn’t given any indication that they’re open to trading Tua Tagovailoa. And after he led the club to a fourth straight winning season, the Dolphins shouldn’t really feel the need to trade the Alabama product.
The 26-year-old Tagovailoa has a 32-19-0 record with a 66.9 completion percentage, 12,639 passing yards, 81 touchdowns and 37 interceptions. If anything else, except Miami to let Tua play the fifth year out on his rookie deal, and then decide next year if they want to a) extend him b) franchise tag him or c) move on.
