The bond between a son and a father is truly unbreakable. The same is Magic Johnson’s attachment to his late dad. However, letting go becomes harder when you know the impact your parents have had on you. One year ago, he shared the sad news of his father’s demise with the world and how he wants to respect his life and legacy. From a child who would play basketball with his father to a 5x NBA champion, Magic Johnson owes it all to Earvin Johnson Sr. The NBA legend gives Johnson Sr. a tribute on his death anniversary writing a beautiful heartfelt message.

Magic Johnson pens down his thoughts on his dad

Johnson shared an old photo with his X followers where he could be seen still young, standing tall with his father. The attached note read, “Becoming the man I am today—a husband, father, basketball player, entrepreneur, and leader—has been shaped by the invaluable lessons from my late father, Earvin Johnson Sr., who passed away a year ago”. He then wrote about all the values he learned from his father that have helped him to date.

“I carry and uphold his values of discipline, focus, attention to detail, drive, and passion with me every day. Dad, I love you deeply, and I know we’ll see each other again.” Magic considers Johnson Sr. his hero, who has instilled a work ethic and discipline in him. His outside-the-box thinking also came because of his father.

Johnson Sr. had two jobs to make ends meet, but Magic still found ways to connect with his father. Apart from playing with him down the road, young Earvin would also help his dad at work. According to his previous interviews, his father had a strict work ethic. He had mentioned that even if he had a late-night match on Friday with his team, his dad would want him up by 6 am on Saturday for work.

Along with his father, Magic Johnson also appreciates his mother. Seemingly, his personality comes from there. While we usually see him laughing joyfully, incidents like the passing of his dad can be quite saddening. Nevertheless, the fans of the former LA Lakers superstar know that, if anything, he has surely made his father proud.
