Patrick Mahomes had a short and sweet reaction to the news of Marquise “Hollywood” Brown coming to the Kansas City Chiefs.

On Thursday evening, news broke that the former Arizona Cardinals wide receiver was joining the Chiefs on a one-year deal worth up to $11 million. Brown was the best receiver remaining on the open market for one day, after Calvin Ridley signed with the Tennessee Titans on Wednesday.

Mahomes reacted to the news using this simple emoji on X/Twitter:

The Chiefs lacked consistent production at the wide receiver position last year. Rookie Rashee Rice led all WRs with 79 receptions, 938 yards and seven touchdowns. The second-most productive WR on Kansas City’s roster was Justin Watson, who caught 27 passes for 460 yards and three TDs.

The release of Marquez Valdes-Scantling further stressed Kansas City’s need to add more help at wide receiver. Getting Brown, a former 1,000-yard receiver, on a low-risk one-year deal is certainly a savvy piece of work by the defending champions.

The 2019 first-round pick had his best season in 2021 with the Baltimore Ravens, having caught 91 passes for 1,008 yards and six touchdowns. Injuries limited Hollywood to 26 games over his two seasons with Arizona, where he compiled 118 catches for 1,283 yards and seven touchdowns.

Now, Brown gets the chance to compete for a Super Bowl while also resetting his market for next year. And there’s no better place to do it than with Mahomes in Kansas City.
