Bill Belichick may not have a head coaching job in the NFL at the moment. And he may not get one before the start of the 2024 season. But there are still many intriguing options, including one that’s expected to open up in the Big Apple at some point.

During a recent segment on “Get Up,” Belichick’s future was discussed by Adam Schefter and former New York Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum. After trying to figure out why Belichick was passed up for all of the current head coaching vacancies in the NFL, Tannenbaum turned his attention to 2025’s hiring cycle. And that’s when he had an interesting prediction for viewers.

According to Tannenbaum, Belichick will “cast a big shadow” in New York. But it won’t be over his former team. Rather, the former Jets exec believes Belichick’s name will be a popular one around the New York Giants organization, should Brian Daboll’s team continue to struggle during the 2024 season.

“The biggest shadow [Belichick] is going to cast is in East Rutherford, New Jersey,” Tannenbaum said during the show on Friday. “He has a great relationship with the Mara family. The first time the Giants lose a game, Brian Daboll — whether it’s fair or unfair — is going to have to answer that question every press conference.”

After leading his team to a 9-7-1 record and a wild card victory in his first season with the Giants in 2022, Daboll had a much tougher time pleasing the G-Men’s fanbase in 2023. In addition to the team’s disappointing 6-11 record, there were also rumors of Daboll being “disruptive” and tough to work with last season.

With all of the negativity surrounding the team heading into the offseason, you can bet Daboll will be on a short leash in 2024. And you can also bet that, should Daboll and the Giants struggle early on, John Mara will have Belichick’s number ready on speed dial.
