On Wednesday, the NFLPA released the updated results of their annual NFL team report cards, with 1,706 players taking part in this year’s survey.
For the survey, the NFLPA asked players to offer feedback on a variety of categories. This includes the training room/staff, the cafeteria, the treatment of families, the locker room, the owner and the head coach.
For the Washington Commanders’ team survey, some players complained about the locker room suffering various “sewage leaks.” On top of that, there were plenty of complaints about the training room lacking enough staff members:
“The survey data reveals a long list of items with the workplace that continue to be problems, and players expressed that they have grown tired of the deficiencies. To start, the locker room is small and in desperate need of renovation, with players reporting multiple sewage leaks. The training room is significantly understaffed, with only 52% of players saying they receive an adequate amount of one-on-one treatment time for injury recovery and prevention. Equipment in the weight room and training room was described as below the standards required of a professional sports franchise, and the Commanders are one of seven teams where players believe the club’s facility is no better than other places they could train offsite.”
According to the survey, 19 percent of Washington players believe the team locker room has enough space. A lack of cleanliness and needs for renovation were other complaints cited in the surveys.
The stadium opened in 1997 and was known as “FedExField” from 1999 to 2024. On Wednesday, it was reported that FedEx was ending its stadium naming rights deal with the Commanders.
Though it’s not even 30 years old, the Commanders’ home field has been widely regarded as the worst NFL stadium for many years. Aside from its well-documented history of structural issues, public transportation isn’t exactly efficient because of the stadium’s location. Fans who get off the closest stop to the field still have to walk a mile to the stadium.
At this rate, it’s clearly just a matter of time until new owner Josh Harris locks down a deal for a new football stadium that’s long overdue.
