Free agent quarterback Russell Wilson reportedly had an awfully encouraging meeting with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Friday.

According to a report from Josina Anderson of CBS Sports, Wilson and the Steelers “had a great meeting”, with the nine-time Pro Bowler even speaking to new offensive coordinator Arthu Smith “for hours.” It was also noted by Anderson that Wilson appeared “happy” and took it upon himself to contact some of the Steelers players.

Earlier this week, the Broncos announced that they will release Wilson once the new league year officially begins on Wednesday. The team will stomach a massive $85 million dead cap charge, the highest in NFL history.

After their playoff loss to the Buffalo Bills, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin stated that the team would bring in competition for third-year QB Kenny Pickett. Wilson may not be an MVP candidate anymore, but he could still serve as a quality short-term starting option for the right team.

And perhaps that team will be the Steelers. Stay tuned.
