The NFL has levied out a final fine for the 2023 season and it happened during the Super Bowl.
The NFL waited until Monday to announce they were going to punish a Kansas City Chiefs player for an illegal play they made in their Super Bowl victory over the San Francisco 49ers.
Each Chiefs player earned more than $300,000 for the team’s four wins during the postseason, including Super Bowl LVIII.
Chiefs linebacker Nick Bolton will be using some of that to pay a fine.
He was fined by the NFL for an unnecessary-roughness penalty during the Chiefs’ 25-22 overtime win over the San Francisco 49ers at Allegiant Stadium.
The NFL hit Bolton with $8,238 for the penalty. The play went down in the second quarter of Super Bowl LVIII.
The league waited until President’s Day to punish Bolton.
That seems like a weak play to fine Bolton over, but the fine is covered with his winnings and a Super Bowl victory.
Bolton finished the game with 13 tackles, five solo and one tackle for loss. He’s now a two-time Super Bowl champion after scoring a defensive touchdown in last year’s win over the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Chiefs drafted Bolton out of Missouri with the No. 58 overall pick (second round) in the 2021 NFL Draft. He made the PFWA All-Rookie Team.
