Russell Wilson has a plan in mind that should immediately make him more attractive to teams around the NFL following his departure from Denver.
The Broncos announced having released the quarterback this Monday in a move that will become official once the new league year begins next Wednesday. The decision will also see them take on a record $85 million in dead money.
Wilson is set to make $39 million next season due to his contract and, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Folwer, is willing to accept peanuts from his next team as he can easily afford to sign for a veteran’s minimum.
“It can’t be overstated what kind of value he is, because he can literally sign for the vet minimum because Denver’s paying him $39 million, and I’m told that plan is firmly on his radar,” Fowler explained on ‘Get Up’ on Tuesday morning (H/T Bleacher Report). “He wants to help his new team by being a bargain. So, there will be a market for that. He wants to go to a team, I’m told to not only win, but has an infrastructure, a history of winning.”
Russ presents value for money as he’s going to get $39 million from Denver regardless of where he goes in 2024 and is still a very good quarterback, despite things not working out with the Broncos.
The 35-year-old threw for 3,070 yards, 26 touchdowns, and eight interceptions in 2023. That’s only one TD less than Patrick Mahomes passed for and nearly half of the interceptions the Chiefs QB threw.
