Sports fans aren’t particularly happy about the announcement of the upcoming edition of the popular golf event, “The Match.”
It was announced on Wednesday that Kansas City Chiefs stars Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce will go up against Golden State Warriors legends Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson in the next version of “The Match.” It will be played on June 29 at the Wynn Golf Club in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The most recent edition of “The Match” saw Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy go up against Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas on Dec. 10. The latter two won the showdown at Pelican Golf Club in Belleair, Florida.
Needless to say, however, fans aren’t exactly keen on the set matchup for the next version of “The Match.” Many took to social media to voice their disappointment with it.
The majority of showdowns for “The Match” have featured at least one PGA player. This will be just the second edition of “The Match” that didn’t have a pro golfer, as Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers faced and defeated Mahomes and Josh Allen in the June 1, 2022 event.
Regardless of how fans feel about it, this event should be a ratings’ win for TNT. Thompson and Curry are among the greatest NBA players ever, having led the Warriors to four championships (2015, 2017, 2018 and 2022) over their illustrious careers.
Mahomes and Kelce are arguably the best duo in football right now, having just led the Chiefs to their second Super Bowl championship in four years. With four highly popular and greatly accomplished athletes sharing the green, the ratings promise to deliver yet again.
