The artwork for Cardi B’s song ‘Money’, finds her posing in gloves entirely of gold watches and a gilded, chain-fringed hat to show off hers wealth

Migos have a profound obsession with jewelry, to the point where they’ve coined their own term for their unique blinged-out style, referring to it as “drippy.” In a pre-Grammys video they created for Vogue earlier this year, Quavo shifted his focus to an ornate, jewel-encrusted jacket, asserting, “This is dripping right here, but it ain’t spilling. You ain’t overloading. It’s a lot going on, but not too much.”

The artwork for Cardi B’s latest track, “Money,” her initial solo release since her album “Invasion of Privacy” earlier this year, portrays her striking a pose while adorned in gloves entirely composed of gold watches and a gilded hat adorned with chains—an undoubtedly extravagant display, to borrow a phrase from Migos.

According to her stylist, Kollin Carter, “Money” embodies Cardi B’s boss-like persona, with lyrics like “10 different looks, and my looks all kill,” celebrating financial success. Thus, Carter aimed to have the artwork reflect this ode to opulence. “Growing up, both Cardi and I had a shared love for diamonds and gold,” Carter explained, and they brought this vision to life with the opulent Christian Cowan watch gloves and a custom-made Laurel Dewitt hat, a style that’s quickly becoming Cardi’s signature. She previously wore a similar hat in her “Be Careful” music video and more recently donned it with a Moschino birthday ensemble.

Carter noted that he and Cardi had always wanted to incorporate the Cowan gloves into her visuals, but the right opportunity had never presented itself. The gloves were so weighty—Carter estimates each glove to weigh around 2 to 3 pounds—that Cardi had to rest her arms on props during the photoshoot. Although it’s difficult to imagine anyone else wearing these gloves in real life, they do serve a functional purpose in a unique way. Carter added, “All the clocks on the gloves actually work.”

While Cardi may appear to outshine her husband in this extravagant display, Carter explained that they drew inspiration from other visual references. He mentioned, “We wanted her to look like a lamp straight out of Donatella Versace’s house.” If you listen to the audio on Cardi’s official YouTube channel, you can almost envision just that, with the added spectacle of the jewels shimmering and catching the eye.
