Travis Kelce addressed his viral Taylor Swift Fearless Heart hands gesture at Sunday’s game against the Buffalo Bills during his and brother Jason Kelce’s podcast New Heights this week.
The move was a public declaration of love, but it wasn’t directed to Taylor Swift.
Kelce made the gesture after scoring his first of two touchdowns while also blowing a kiss.
The Kansas City Chiefs tight end revealed on Wednesday’s episode of his “New Heights” podcast that the gesture was actually for angry Buffalo Bills fans.
“Had to spread the love baby,” Kelce said. “Always got to spread that love baby. There was a lot of hate pulling up to that stadium, man. A lot of [I] understand… Coming into their house, they want to make it rowdy. Did it get a little disrespectful? 1,000 percent. They got a little extra.”
Kelce didn’t disclose what was said, saying, “I’m not going to relay it, but some things were said about the family. Some pretty inappropriate things were said about [Kansas City Chiefs quarterback] Pat Mahomes. It was pretty wack.”
“I get it. I get it,” he added. “Coming into a hostile environment, I respect it. But I just wanted to make sure they knew it wasn’t mutual. I don’t hate you guys like you hate us. It’s all love baby.” Page Six noted Kelce’s remarks could have partly been because Swift was booed when shown at the game too.
The celebration of Kelce’s first touchdown also had Jason Kelce taking off his shirt before chugging a beer.
Kelce and the Chiefs will step into another hostile environment Sunday when they take on the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Championship Game. Should they win that game, they will advance to the Super Bowl.
This will be the second true playoff road game for Patrick Mahomes in his career, but based on how he played and handled the Bills crowd, he should be fine in Baltimore.
