Projected No. 1 overall draft pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, Caleb Williams, riled up some fans after it was revealed that he had painted pink nails, a pink phone, and pink lips while he watched the USC Trojan women play in the NCAA Tournament.

He was caught on camera at the game and waved cheerfully, showing off his pink items. He had zero clue that fans from every corner of the country were blasting him for what he likes.

Williams’ choices sparked a huge backlash online from angry sports fans, who took to X to deliver some takes that included a ton of homophobia.

Many comments stated he was “sassy” and changing his name “Gayleb Williams.”

One of Caleb Williams supporters came in the form of a top NFL analyst.

Kyle Brandt, one of the hosts of “Good Morning Football” and noted Chicago Bears fan, saw the attacks online against Caleb Williams and took to his defense in a passionate rant on the popular NFL Network show on Thursday.

“I engaged a little bit and I began seeing caveman Twitter with not just jokes but real authentic opinions and diatribes about Caleb’s personality and his tastes being a problem and becoming red flags — and then I got genuinely annoyed,” Brandt said.

Brandt cited how much he hated the homophobic comments while giving out the main three talking points he saw online, via TheStreet.com:

“That’s not a leader of men.”
“The most important qualities in a leader are being confident being secure with yourself being bold and having everyone you’re leading want to follow you find any teammate Caleb has had across two major programs say one bad thing about Caleb, let alone that he’s weird or eccentric.”

“That’s not going to work in the locker room.”
“Those are the words of the most basic bad radio caller to a terrible radio show in 1992. That’s not going to work in the locker room. What the hell do you know? … Do you know that the personalities and perspectives in this league have evolved dramatically?”

“He’s too Hollywood for the NFL.”
“Do you know what it’s like to be 22 years old living in LA with some fame and some money in your pocket? It’s intoxicating. You make some unconventional choices, believe me. Maybe things you look back and shake your head at later.” Brandt said this while showing an unflattering picture of himself from his time in his 20s living in Los Angeles.

Williams has painted his nails for years and that goes back to his days with the Oklahoma Sooners.

Williams has said that it is his way of honoring his mom, who works as a nail technician.

In a 2023 interview, the star quarterback said: “It started, I would say, three years ago. It was my last year of high school. My mom does nails. Let’s just start it off there. She’s done it my whole life. It’s just kind of always been around me. Nobody else does it. I just kinda like to do new things.”

It’s not often that we get to state that the Chicago Bears are making all of the good moves, but that is exactly what they have been doing this offseason in preparation for Caleb Williams.

The team has traded for WR Keenan Allen, signed D’Andre Swift, signed TE Gerald Everett, signed DB Jonathan Owens, and a host of other moves that will give Caleb Williams everything he needs to have to hopefully have a successful first season in the league.

Will Caleb Williams run into trouble in the NFL because he wears pink lipstick and gets his nails done? Let us know what you think about this situation in the comments.
