Stephen A Smith weighed in on the Atlanta Falcons first-round draft pick on Friday morning and had a blunt message for Kirk Cousins and his camp.
Cousins was reportedly peeved by the team’s decision to draft Michael Penix Jr. on Thursday night, as the team did not let him know they were drafting another quarterback in the first round until they were on the clock.
The way Smith sees it, the veteran QB should take his money and shut up, with the Falcons handing him $100 million in guaranteed money as part of the four-year, $180 million he signed last month.
“You got $100 million. Shut the hell up! His agent talking,” Stephen A. said during ‘First Take‘. “What are we talking about here? He got a $180 million contract with $100 million guaranteed fresh off of an Achilles injury.“
Stephen A Smith also criticized Cousins’ production when compared to the money he’s earned as a quarterback in the NFL over the span of his career.
“We ain’t seen you. We assume you’re going to be alright,” he said, referencing the QB’s Achilles injury.
“We heard you’re going to be alright. But we don’t know. Here’s what we do know. You are absolutely exceptional and the quintessential role model when it comes to getting your bag for minimal production.“
Stephen A Smith Admits Kirk Cousins Can Play
Stephen A Smith acknowledged that Kirk Cousins can put up significant numbers during the regular season and that he’s “no scrub.” However, he pointed out that Cousins only has one playoff win to show for his career and doesn’t feel like the vet is owed any sympathy because he wasn’t informed of the team’s decision.
“I’m watching last night and this morning, everybody acting like we’re a heartbeat away from calling Dr. Phil or Dear Abby about how he wasn’t consulted before they made the pick,” Smith said.
“Stop it. This is ridiculous.”
